The Earthquake

A few weeks ago there was the strongest earthquake in Italy in the last 30 years, measuring a 6.3 on the Richter scale, centered on the town of L'Aquila (The Eagle) in Abruzzo, which I felt in Rome almost 90 miles away. The Italian government's response has been very good and they are doing everything they can, but a moment like this could not go by without something slipping out of Berlusconi's mouth...

"Of course, their current lodgings are a bit temporary. But they should see it like a weekend of camping."

In reference to the fact that nearly the entire population of 72,000 people in L'Aquila are currently living in tents in the countryside outside the city.

the comment is somewhat reminiscent of Barbara Bush's comment after the New Orleans hurricane..something about the fact that some of these people have nevber had it so good.
What it is about some of those born with a silver spoon in their mouths, that empathy was never able to take root in their souls!
