Florian managed to talk to his supervisor and organized a lunch for Bella, him and myself at the garden outside the Stravinskij Bar in the garden yesterday afternoon. There is a buffet lunch which had a little bit of everything; a nice spread of veggies (some delicious roasted red peppers), cheeses (I had a great goat cheese), gnocchi alla romana, rice salad, couscous, little beef medallions, roast beef, two different types of grilled fish, various cakes for dessert, and some other plates I'm sure I'm forgetting.
The buffet is 36 euros per person and I think might just be worth it. The garden is a beautiful setting if the weather's nice and it would be a lovely place to go with a book and have a liesurely lunch on a lazy weekend afternoon. Everything is extortiately expensive (I think a can of coke was 8 euros and a coffee was 5) but if you stick to the buffet and don't get much else you could get out of there with a little something left over. We had a very nice bottle of Pinot Grigio for 40 euros, the cheapest on the menu, but it was very light and perfect for a sunny afternoon. Thanks to Florian's current position in marketing we got the meal for free, but I don't think he'll be able to swing that again. We are going to try for drinks next week when his brother is in town though.
Hotel de Russie is right off Piazza del Popolo on Via del Babuino, 9; 06 328881.
